The purpose of physical therapy is to treat disease, injury, and disability by evaluation, examination, and use of rehabilitative procedures.
Physical therapists treat by referral from physicians or other health care providers. Joint mobilizations, therapeutic massage, exercises, and physical agents such as heat, cold, air, light, water, electricity, and sound may be used in treatment of the patient. In many cases, improvement can be achieved simply through appropriate exercise and by learning more about how the body works.
Physical therapists spend time teaching the patient or family member how they can help themselves at home. The goal is to assist the patient in achieving their maximum potential within their capabilities and to minimize residual disabilities.

- Osteoporosis
- Neurological conditions such as: traumatic brain injury, multiple sclerosis, stroke, Parkinson's disease, and circulation problems involving swelling of the legs and feet or other extremities
